A Historic Day

History was made today.  Whether you want to recognize Barak Obama as our president or not, he is.  Whether you voted for him or not, he has been inaugurated as the President of the United States of America.

The American public has showed a true change.  A black man was voted in as our president, a man under the age of 50, a man who publicly at least professes to believe in Jesus Christ.  Given the current attitude towards “Evangelical Christians” in our country, this is a pretty big deal.  Add in the fact that a high percentage of those same “Evangelicals” did NOT vote for him makes it even more amazing.

As of today or country will embark on a new kind of change.  We don’t know what tomorrow will bring, we don’t know what his first 100 days in office will bring… all we do know is that God has placed the man in his position.

As I spoke with a variety of people today, I was struck by the different attitudes that I encountered.  I took my girls to school today because I was heading to a meeting anyway.  Every classroom in their school was playing the inauguration (and I agree that they should have witnessed it!) and I spoke with a few teachers.  As I left I stopped by the store, the post office, and a few other places.  I talked to people.

There were expressions of hope.  There were expressions of despair.  There was nonchalance, there was numbness.

I just have one answer to all of these emotions…

The Bible says this:

“The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD;
he directs it like a watercourse wherever he pleases.”  Prov 21:1

” God reigns over the nations; God is seated on his holy throne.” Ps 47:8

” For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.” Col 1:16

14 Counsel and sound judgment are mine;
I have understanding and power.

15 By me kings reign
and rulers make laws that are just;

16 by me princes govern,
and all nobles who rule on earth.” Prov 8:14-16

That tells me that Barak Obama is the president of the United States of America because God chose him for the job.  God has put him in place – whether we agree or not – and will use him to bring about His perfect will.

We need to pray for our new president.

We need to pray for the man that God has chosen to rule our country.  We need to pray that God will guide and direct him.  We need to pray that he will listen to the leading and guidance of God.  We need to pray that Congress will be lead by God’s Spirit.  We need to pray that God will use His people to bring about a revival within these borders the likes of which have never been seen.

Put simply, we need to pray.

The bible also says that “the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” James 5:16

What can this country do in the name of God if we will but pray?  If we will but turn our lives over to God wholly and completely.

I’m so tired of listening to Christians complaining about who was voted in as our president.  I’m tired of the despair that I am hearing.  We should be praising God that we still have the freedom to worship Him!  That we can gather together and talk about God!  That we can tell others about Him without fear of being thrown in jail or killed!

We live in a country that is free to worship whatever God or god it’s people want to.  Yes, that does mean that people will be worshiping some other entity from time to time, but it also means that we have the responsibility to show them the one true God!

Yes, change is coming.  Change is here.  Let us embrace the changes that God is wanting to bring rather that being angry or full of despair because we didn’t get our way.  Since when is our way better than God’s?  Get over yourselves.  Wake up and praise God that you have air to breath, food to eat, and people to tell about Him!

Perhaps if we shared the hope of the majority of our nation, we could more easily show them God – the hope of the world.
