Booking Through Thursday – a meme
Yes, today is January 1st, a day that many people will be posting their resolutions for all the world to see. I’ve resolved this year to not make any resolutions… I know, kind of a cop-out on my part! I’m just tired of the first 2 weeks of the year being all about the things that you would like to change… and then being once again forgotten about.
So, rather than bore you with resolutions, I’m doing a new meme today… one about books and reading!
I found it over at Booking through Thursday, and they even have a cute little button!
I like buttons. Call me weird if you want to, but it just lets me know that the blog author has taken the time to make it feel that much more legit. Legit is a good thing.
So, onto the meme for today, January 1, 2009…
So … any Reading Resolutions? Say, specific books you plan to read? A plan to read more ____? Anything at all?
Name me at least ONE thing you’re looking forward to reading this year!
I plan to read Paul of Dune and Servant of the Bones this year – mainly because we have them in the house & I don’t have to go to the library or the store to get them…
I also plan to read parts of the bible that I have never read before (egads! yes, I must confess that there are entire books that I have never, ever read) This is an oversight that I would like to rectify in 2009.
As for books that are sitting at the bookstores and libraries across America, I’m not terribly up on what’s out there, but I would love to read some of Gregory Maguire’s books. But then, I have been wanting to read Wicked since it was first published and I haven’t yet. I saw the show though! Fabulous… truly.
Basically I am looking forward to reading more books in general. It is something that I used to do all the time – you rarely found me without a book nearby – and I have rediscovered that love in the past year or so. The biggest problem that I have had is that I tend to pick a book that starts a series… and it generally ends up being a loooooong series (Dune anyone?) and then life as we know it gets put on hold until I finish all 5, 7, 10, 16 books in the series. Yes, I lost a week in August 2007 to Harry Potter, and the month of October was spent living in the world of Rand and Egwene, Nynane, Matt and Perrin in the Wheel of Time series.
THAT is a book I hope to read this year though – the final book in the wheel of time series that is being finished posthumously from notes that Robert Jordan left. It’s due out this Spring, I believe. Then I can close that part of my mind and move on. Yes, I was dreaming the characters for a few months. I may just have to re-read the other 12 books (don’t forget the prequel) to refresh my memory…
I also need to finish The Mystic Rose (Lawhead) as I want to have that trilogy finished and packed away in the folds of my memory… it just wasn’t as good as his Pendragon quintet. Either that or the other series I was in the midst of was grabbing more attention. Multi-tasking on book series at the same time may not be the best idea in retrospect.
So, these are my literary plans for 2009. Read more. Read more and still maintain some level of a life for my family – the house picked up, the food cooked, etc – and make sure that I have that time in the Word added to the mix. That is the most important book to read, after all.
Happy reading!

I too do not want to set up a bunch of lofty goals that I won’t remember in two weeks, so I’ve decided to do just one goal a month. If I achieve that one goal, then I can count the month a success. This month, I am blogging on my site every single day (something I have never done!) and I have also set some traffic goals that I’ll hopefully reach.
That’s it for January. In February, I’ll set another goal, like losing weight or having a cleaner house or whatever. But this month, it’s blogging, baby! LOL!
As for reading, I don’t know that I have one particular book that I want to read this year. I am in the middle of the Anne of Green Gables series (I *totally* understand series taking over your life – that is how I am to a T!) so I guess I’ll say that I want to finish that series. I read a ton of nonfiction, so it’s fun to read something light every once in a while.
Have a wonderful New Years!
