Serenity Collectors Edition is finally in my posession!!! Hooray!
For those that fox networks has left in the deepest darkness of space, Serenity is the movies realization of the Firefly television series dreamed up by Joss Whedon (of Buffy fame…) that fox messed around with and cancelled without giving it a real chance. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr……………..
Fortunately for the rest of the world, the complete Firefly series has been released on DVD – 4 disks, 16 episodes… Yes, I of course have that… and now I have the Serenity 2 disk set. Doin’ the happy dance!

Background…. Firefly is a space western – sounds wierd, but it is so well conceved and written that it pulls you into it’s ‘verse and the characters seem not only believable, but REAL – it is a totally believable future. And all of the swearing is done in Chinese… shiny. And there is a guy named Jayne. He likes big guns. One of them is named. She is his favorite.
Captain Malcolm Reynolds is the leading character, although the real main character is often Serenity – the Fireflly Class airship. He takes care of his crew better than most people take care of their family. He hates the Alliance (the ruling body) and sticks to the fringes of the known universe to avoid them. He fought against them in the war.
The rest of the crew consists of Zoe – his right hand “man” – she fought in the war alongside him – her husband & the pilot Wash who tries to bring normalcy & less violence. Then there is Jayne – the hired gun. The ship mechanic is Kaylee – she is like Mal’s little sister in many ways. Then there is the registered companion Inara (prostitution is legal then) who brings some legitimacy to the ship’s comings & goings.
Add in some paid passengers – a Shepherd (minister) and a brilliant doctor and his psychic sister… all trying to avoid the alliance for their own reasons.
So, now that you have the basic history, GO GET THE MOVIES!!!!! You will not be sorry…
