Seek and You Shall Find
Today’s verse is found in 1 Chronicles 28:9
“And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a whole heart and with a willing mind, for the LORD searches all hearts and understands every plan and thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will cast you off forever.”
David has just announced to the leaders of Israel that Solomon will be his successor to the throne of Israel, and is in the midst of telling Solomon about his plans for the temple to God – which Solomon will build.
But David understands the most important part – to know God and serve Him fully. To seek His face above all else.
God sees the heart of man. That is why He chose David to be king instead of Saul – or any of his own brothers. God saw within David a heart that sought Him. Even with all the stuff David did – murder, adultery, pride, etc – God still called him a man after His own heart.
Why?
Because no matter what happened, David repented and turned back to God. Always.
He understood that God wanted relationship. Look at what he told his son –
“…know the God of your father and serve him with a whole heart and with a willing mind, for the LORD searches all hearts and understands every plan and thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you…”
Do you seek God?
Do you know Him and serve Him with a whole heart and a willing mind?
I must confess that I don’t always. My heart can become very divided, and my mind can be a very unwilling participant in seeking God’s face. But those are the times that I am thankful for God’s grace and forgiveness.
Because if we will repent and turn back to God, He will be found. And He will forgive.
