Sunday Setlist 1-4-08

Well, today was another shortened service as we still cannot get to our facility, and Peace Lutheran was gracious enough to let us fit our service between theirs once again. We had one hour to get in a worship set, a sermon and communion. Wow. We almost made it!

As I mentioned before, our services generally run around 90 minutes, occasionally longer, rarely shorter, so fitting everything into 60 minutes is a bit of a challenge… including setting up and striking the band’s equipment.

As today was the first communion service we have had in a month, we felt that we really needed to fit it in – and I’m so glad that we did. Unfortunately I didn’t get to take part, and I’m not sure Pastor Chris did either as we were leading the worship for that time, but it was nice to see everyone eager to take the time to really focus in on God and the gift that is celebrated at the Lord’s Table.

The messages for both the kids and the adults was centered around focusing in on God in the coming year. The kids message was on using the gifts that God has given you to share with others… be it money, lending helping hand, using your talents, or just sharing Jesus with them. The sermon was on “Accessorizing Your Faith” – applying the old adage of “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue” to our Christian walk. Focusing on remembering the traditions of Christianity, being open to fresh views on biblical principals (as long as they line up with God’s Word), being willing to humble yourself enough within the Body to ask for help when needed, or to give it when asked, and to take the high road in life – not succumbing to the worldly views and reactions but remembering that we are joint heirs with Jesus, and that He is the King of Kings.

Onto the set list(s) We kind of had two sets, as I gave the worship team the communion time off to partake with their families.

Here was our service:

Blessed Be Your Name (Redman)
Jesus Messiah (Tomlin)
All I Have (Dobblemann/Brennan/Brennan)
~ Children’s message “God Will Make Our Gifts Grow”
~ announcements
You’re Worthy Of My Praise
~ Message “Accessorizing Your Faith”
Communion
Lest I Forget (St. James)
Lead Me To The Cross (Fraser)

We had Jesus Blood (Martin Smith) in there as well, but ran out of time… as it stood, we were kissing up against the start of their service and we still had to clear out our gear.

The first 4 songs went very well, although Jesus Messiah was a new one for the congregation, and we had handouts for words instead of media shout. Lest I Forget and Lead Me To the Cross were done with 1 voice, 1 lead guitar and the djembe. I had good feedback for them, but I think we need to work on them just a bit more… it was missing a little something, but that may have been due to our concern for the time.

As much as I love the main facility at Peace Lutheran (the acoustics are amazing) and truly appreciate their generosity in letting us come and worship there, I do miss being in our own place without such time constraints. Hopefully it will decide to STOP snowing around here at some point in the near future… just not today.

We were at a friends home this afternoon and had to drive home in enough snow to close their kids school tomorrow – or at the very least give then a late start. By the time we got near our house it has changed to rain, so hopefully the girls will get to go back to school tomorrow! Did I mention that school was canceled the last 3 days before Christmas break as well? By Christmas we had over 3 feet of the white stuff in a place that rarely gets ANY snow.

Anywho, that was our service today. Pile onto that the time of fellowship afterwards, and it was a wonderful way to get ready to plunge back into our regular schedules of work and school. And a nice way to start the new year.

Have a great week!
Jennifer
