Sunday Setlist – Palm Sunday!

Happy Palm Sunday!

The sun has finally decided to make an appearance here in Washington, and it is fabulous!  The sunlight streaming through the windows of our little white church was a beautiful site this morning, although I’m not sure that everyone arrived fully awake today… it took a song or so to get people awake and joining in.

Onto the list…

  • Hosanna (Praise Is Rising) [F]
  • Matt 21:6-11 reading
  • How Can I Keep From Singing [F]
  • Reign In Us [F]
  • In Christ Alone [G]
  • kids Palm Sunday story
  • Every Move I Make [G]
  • Announcements
  • Message – Guest Speaker
  • Hosanna reprise

This morning was one of those days where the Spirit just worked everything out… we had a guest pastor and a guest children’s teacher, and none of us talked beforehand… but EVERYTHING jut melded together.  It was just cool.  Granted, we did have a unifying topic… it IS Palm Sunday after all!

Dave got a new guitar yesterday, unfortunately he broke a string just as we were starting our rehearsal this morning – that meant we didn’t get to hear it yet.  Ah well, his dad ran home & got his other guitar so he still got to play.

We have been doing Hosanna quite a bit lately, but is such a great song to get people up and praising God – that and this being a day that we remember Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem on a donkey to the shouts of “Hosanna” it just seemed fitting.

Reign in Us is a song that the team has been working on since Feb, but it just keeps getting bumped for one reason or another.  We finally got to teach it to the church this morning, and I was thrilled to note that quite a few were able to join in and sing it with us.  One of the local stations has started playing it some, which I’m sure helps.

In Christ Alone is one of those songs that I just love… the words are so rich and the melody enhances them at just the right moment… the choir is singing it next Sunday, but I just couldn’t resist adding it in today.

Overall everything went very well – even with the early hiccups and Pastor Chris absent.  David is doing a great job as lead guitar (even though I still want to turn up his amp!) and I’m excited to see where it will be going!

I’m slowly adjusting the keys of the songs up a bit from a baritone-led range to a soprano-led one… since I’m a soprano instead of a baritone.  Practice Wednesday night reminded me of that in a big way – and I’m getting tired of coming home from rehearsal with a blown out voice.  Ugh.  I just can’t sing consistently down below mid-C… a couple of octaves up is just fine for 4 hours, but not below.  I know… I need to keep it lower for our alto-range congregation, but I’m searching for that happy medium.  It seemed to work better today though – with everything in either F or G ;~)  I’m remembering why I used to always find a nice harmony… then I can place it wherever I need it without having to worry about everyone else needing it lower.

Well, it’s a beautiful day out and sitting here at a computer just seems wrong, so I”m going to head out and soak up some vitamin D before it leaves again.  It is only April after all – and we did get snow last week.

How did your Sunday morning go?

” (even though I still want to turn up his amp!) ”

Ha! I sometimes wish that was what we needed to do in our church :)

Enjoy the sun. God is good!

I love “Reign in us”. I’m hoping to add it soon.
